The Role

Plasman Group has an exciting opportunity for a payroll professional interested in taking on a new challenge. We are seeking an experienced and service-oriented candidate to take on the position of Payroll Specialist, delivering centralized payroll services to our Canadian facilities. This role is a member of our Canadian HR team, reporting to the HR Regional Lead for Canada. The candidate will work closely with our HR and Finance teams.

This a unique opportunity to work as a member of a project team to centralize our six site payrolls and establish the process for centralized administration. Upon completion of the initial centralization project, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for ongoing administration and maintenance of the centralized payroll, with a focus on continuous improvement. The Payroll Specialist will bring a strong customer service orientation, as the subject matter expert and point of contact for payroll questions from team members and external parties.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Process complex payroll functions with minimum supervision
  • Play an integral role in centralizing the payroll for multiple facilities while applying project methodology and best practices.
  • Update and reconcile monthly bank statements from ADP
  • Responsible for maintaining legislative compliance, as well as keeping abreast of upcoming changes and ensuring proactive planning, assessment of stakeholder impacts, and implementation and communication
  • Respond to general employee and external customer inquiries related to relevant payroll programs, processes or provisions as applicable
  • Assist with out of cycle, quarterly and year-end variable compensation/salary/bonus payments
  • Act as a liaison between payroll department, HR and outside 3rd party vendors
  • Inspect/audit payroll output such as registers and standard reports for accuracy, determining and correcting out of the balance conditions and ensuring all controls are in place
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in processing multi-site payroll and provincial Labour Laws

 

 Education & Experience Requirements 

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma with an emphasis in Payroll/Accounting, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive Payroll/Accounting experience for large organizations preferably using ADP
  • Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation preferred

 

Other Requirements

  • Working knowledge of shadow processing for US/Canada
  • Strong working knowledge of ESA, CPP, and CRA regulations
  • Working knowledge of payroll best practices
  • Strong PC skills with proficiency in Excel
  • Working knowledge of ADP payroll, benefits, time and attendance, and reporting. Experience with ADP Workforce Now platform considered an asset
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of management
  • Proven sense of urgency to meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to independently problem-solve with success
